Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, also known as KUFOS, is an autonomous public-funded institution that was established on November 20, 2010. The University was established under the Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies Act, 2010. KUFOS is situated in Kerala state with its headquarters at Kochi in Ernakulam District. Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies has been approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for 12B status. Apart from this, KUFOS has also been accredited by ICAR and approved by AICTE for B.Tech courses.
KUFOS courses are offered in undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in various disciplines related to fisheries and ocean studies, such as Fishery Science, Oceanography, Marine Biology, Aquatic Animal Health Management, Fish Processing Technology, and Fisheries Economics. The university has several research centers, including the Center for Fishery Environment, the Center for Marine Biotechnology, and the Center for Fishery Genetics and Breeding.
KUFOS provides placement assistance to its students through a dedicated KUFOS placement cell. With the great scope of employment abroad, students also get placed in various seafood plants, sea-based industries, etc during KUFOS placements.
KUFOS facilities are offered to students including research vessels, a hatchery complex, a marine aquarium, a wet laboratory complex, and a central library. The university has collaborations with several national and international research organizations and universities. KUFOS is also involved in various outreach activities such as training programs, consultancy services, and technology transfer initiatives to promote sustainable fisheries practices and the conservation of aquatic resources.

Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies admission is done on the basis of entrance exams and merit obtained by candidates in the qualifying exam. All candidates must fulfill the eligibility criteria required for the course to get eligible for KUFOS admission. Admission to B.F.Sc course is done on the basis of the NEET UG entrance exam or ICAR-AIEEA(UG) and admission to the B.Tech course is done on the basis of the KEAM entrance exam. KUFOS admission to the leftover seats is done on the basis of a spot round.

The Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies merit scholarship and KUFOS fellowship are given to graduate and doctoral students in accordance with their qualifications. No matter where they are from, the primary goal of the fellowship is to provide financial support and incentives to all qualified post-graduate students who are pursuing their degrees as part of the KUFOS research programme.
Kufos Fellowships:
The Junior Fellowship is available to deserving students who have been accepted into Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences' master's degree programme. Senior fellowship eligibility is restricted to deserving individuals accepted into the Ph.D. programme. Students who have received another scholarship, fellowship, or financial aid during the period will not be given consideration for a KUFOS fellowship. Five fellowships are available at the university for Ph.D. and postgraduate students from each school. Senior Research Fellowship: Rs. 13,000/month; Junior Fellowship: Rs. 2,000/month.
Manappuram Foundation Scholarship:
The Manappuram Foundation scholarship is available to three KUFOS MBA candidates from the general category and three from the fishing community. The monthly scholarship payment is Rs 4000. Each semester, this scholarship will be given to qualified students.

Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies facilities are offered to the enrolled students including a library, museum, swimming pool, hostel, farm services, laboratory, aquarium, guest house, etc. The central library at KUFOS acquires all basic Hardware & Software systems essential for modern Library and Information Services, with the financial assistance of ICAR and other agencies. The library also provides Wi-Fi facility through which library clientele can connect their laptops and other smart devices to access e-resources. The School of Fisheries Resource Management and Harvest Technologies at the university has a museum for fish, crustaceans, mollusks, aquatic plants, and parasitic fishes. The School of Aquaculture and Biotechnology also runs a public aquarium with freshwater fish. The swimming pool is 25 meters long and 10 meters wide, and it can hold 4.5 lakh liters of water. It contains separate changing rooms for boys and girls as well as an automatic water purification system, four tracks, four starting blocks, an all-around deck slab, and a diving springboard. The services of lifeguards are offered for the protection of pupils. The girl's hostel at KUFOS has a total intake capacity of 63. Currently, a total of 69 PG students are admitted there availing the facilities of the adjoining quarters building also which was allotted for the use of the ladies' hostel. Students belonging to MFSc, MSc, MBA, Ph.D. as well as LLM are presently admitted in the hostel. The newly built hostel has 20 rooms for the stay of inmates, a common dining hall, kitchen and work area, recreation room, mess workers room, and a sick room. On the other hand, the boys' hostel consists of 16 double rooms, 17 single rooms, and a dormitory with a total capacity of 73 inmates.
